Joseph Martin

The driving force behind the East Van Digital record label representing a catalog of over 400 tracks from over 125 artists based around the world featuring a variety of electronic sub-genres.

One of Western Canada’s premier funky house djs, dropping tunes since 1998 and a Shambhala Music Festival resident dj since 2004, he has played many a memorable set in the legendary Fractal Forest, including the now infamous Caturday Morning Disco. In 2010, Joseph became a resident dj with Intimate Productions at the long running night SiGNAL Saturdays, located at the former Lotus Sound Lounge in Vancouver, and now presides over the bi-monthly Caturday Night Disco. Past and present side projects include the live A/V act Fresh Baked DJs and live PA moniker Tasen. From 2003-2006, he hosted weekly The Shakedown radio show featuring djs from across Canada and with the Liquidbeat collective, helped produce some of the B.C. interior’s most inspiring parties.

An obsessive collector with a deep library and a fond love of programming, Joseph is known to play deep, disco, electro, funky and jackin’ house, including his own edits, originals and remixes. His tracks and remixes have been playlisted on BBC Radio 1 and supported by Andru Pozzatron, City and Mixxxy, De Koze, Denis A, Funk Hunters, Grant Nelson, Incredible Melting Man, Jason Score, Joachim Garraud, Joel Armstrong, Kissy Sell Out, Mat The Alien, Qdup Foundation, Smalltown DJs, Stereoheroes, Tomb Crew, Tyler Stadius and more.

East Van Digital bigwig Joseph Martin’s flawlessly mixed, incessantly funky 8 a.m. disco set capped off a great Friday night for some, and started others’ days on a note so upbeat that no one had to buy any coffee.” – Alan Ranta / Exclaim! / Review of Shambhala 2011

“Joseph Martin of Vancouver was up next and his set was AMAZING! …Joe’s music instantly maxed out the floor. I’m guessing it wasn’t his first Bar-B-Que! My dude threw down!  When Joe hit the stage I knew what it meant to be at Brat party. After his set I talked to Joey about his energy and my dude told me “If you’re not on stage freaking out how can you expect the crowd to!” Such energy, he played an electro set and it was kill, he’s from Vancouver and that was pretty obvious, their electro scene is so far ahead of ours it’s basically a different genre. It was like electro 2.0 for me.” – Collin Gordan / Review of “SILK” by Brat Productions

“Vancouver label East Van Digital has begun to make waves with a steady pattern of solid releases, stemming from a fully stacked roster of over 50 producers. With label boss man Joseph Martin having cut his teeth on such small stages as Shambhala’s Fractal Forest and the long-loved-but-never-forgotten Lotus Sound Lounge, after a listen to the label’s new showcase EVD Bass 2, it’s clear he learned a thing or two about recognizing talent.” – Summer Swanson / BeatRoute Magazine
