Noble Eightfold Path: Quality of Sound

Sound is human interpretation of vibrations present in a solid, liquid, gas or plasma. When one is deeply, emotionally involved with quality stereo sound a space of light, colour and energy can open up within and the listener becomes the sound. It is a place where much can be experienced and learned.   With depth of sound quality music can link us to the fundamentals of creation.

The Electric Love Music Festival is dedicated to the utmost in sound quality. Our stages will be powered by PK Sound and Funktion One, both of which are the cutting edge of quality when it comes to festival sound. Leading up to the festival, we are also taking community initiatives in "sound baths", a therapeutic form of music and meditation for the purpose of healing. We do this to promote the healing qualities of sound waves, and also to share the love that we feel for music and its power to build community.

Great Reasons to Volunteer

For any festival to run smoothly and remain accessible to the community, volunteers are an essential and valued element. We'd love for you to volunteer with us on the August long weekend, and we have a few great reasons why you might consider joining us!

  1. Your ticket is free!
The cost of attending lots of summer events can cause you to dig deep into your pockets. Volunteering saves you money! Instead use those funds to put towards a new fest-ready outfit or some unique items from our vendors. On top of saving, you get access to 4 stages of music with all the talent you want to see for free!
  2. Become part of our close-knit community.
You get to see the inner workings of a festival and behind the scenes experience. It's also an excellent chance to connect with rad like minded music loving people to make new and possibly life long friends.
  3. Add experience to your resume.
We appreciate all the work our volunteers do. If you go above and beyond it won’t go unnoticed! Volunteers who complete their shifts can request a reference from their Supervisor and Volunteer Coordinator.
  4. Being a part of the FIRST of many.
How awesome is it going to be to say to your friends… “I was there and helped make the FIRST Electric Love Music Festival epic!”

Artist Profile: Emotionz

Emotionz is noticeably one of the greatest talents in Vancouver's hip-hop scene: he records, he battles, he beatboxes and he engages the community by hosting events, workshops and club nights. He does it all, and is a 2-decade veteran of the game. Electric Love's Nikki and Adrian caught up with Emotionz to talk about his long history and his bright future.

Electric Love: How long have you been making music for?

Emotionz: I’ve been making rap music for about 20 years. I started out with freestyling and beatboxing when I was 13 or 14 years old, and it kind of moved more into recording in the studio, battles and stuff like that when I was young and now it’s turned into more touring and stuff like that.

Electric Love: What are some previous shows, festival or tour stories you could tell us?

Emotionz: You know every weekend is kind of like a new adventure for us. Some of the highlights as far as festivals and stuff that I’ve done: I’ve done Shambala for 15 years, Ultra Festival in Miami which was a really good one, I’ve done the World Ski & Snowboard Fest in Whistler a bunch of times which is always really special. Bass Coast is another amazing festival, which I’ve played there 3 times and that place has an awesome energy.

Electric Love: Aside from every artist playing at Electric Love, what do you personally bring to the table musically to get everyone hyped up for your show?

Emotionz: I think that I have pretty good music for these kinds of festivals because my music is kind of in-between Hip-Hop and EDM so it’s like rapping over it and the conscious lyrics. It’s a lot of Hip-Hop but over EDM, which is fun, or Hip-Hop music made with more Electronic sounds. With my beatboxing and rapping, I try to come up with more original pieces and bring a unique energy to the party that no one else brings. And I also feel like the crowd is only gonna have as much fun as you, so you gotta set an example of how much fun you want people to have and how much energy you want people to have.

Electric Love: What are some past accomplishments you have achieved in your field?

Emotionz: I’ve toured 18 countries, which I am very proud of, so that’s kept me busy for a long time. I’ve released 2 full solo studio albums, a bunch of mix tapes and stuff like that, but 2 full albums with music videos. I’m very proud of those albums. I was a battle champion in Western Canada for a very long time, and when I was in the battle stuff, I excelled in that very well and had a great record, kind of a lot of hype going for that. I’ve moved on to more as performer and studio recorder but looking back on my accomplishments, I am stoked with everything that I did because it was really fun in the moment. I’m very proud that the EDM & Hip-Hop scene, well the entire music scene, has opened up to me. All the musicians that live around me have always shown love and appreciation for everything I’ve done and the EDM Festivals and music scene has welcomed me with open arms, and the Hip-Hop scene has always been my forte.

Electric Love: What are you most excited for about Electric Love?

Emotionz: I like the idea that it’s a one-day party and everyone comes to have a great time. You give it your all to make sure that everyone has an awesome time. For me personally, I’m stoked on how many local Hip-Hop acts are booked to perform at it. Like 100 groups or something like that, so programming it will be hard (laughs). I’m excited to see that much local music and you know a lot of music festivals have to import the talent and its kind of weird when there is so much talent around you. So it’s cool to see, and the EDM line up is awesome! Like Mat The Alien is gonna crush it, but yeah, the amount of Hip-Hop acts is awesome, kind of like giving the tilt of the hat to the culture.

Artist Profile: Prada West

Prada West is young, ambitious and ready to let loose. The Ephin/Stompdown artist not only has the grit to express some heady topics, but also the dedication to see his talent through to fruition. Electric Love's Racquel had some words with Prada about his musical origins, his touring plans, and getting to the hearts of the fans.

Electric Love: How did you get started in music? What inspired you to get your career going as a rapper?

Prada West: First of all, I've always had a deep love for music, ever since a child. My father is a professional drummer, and still plays till this day. I remember as a child my mom would always turn on the radio to watch me dance, and boogie around the house when I was really young. I got started in music around 2006, when i was inspired by a tattoo artist of mine while being tattooed, and talking about hip hop and the state of it. We joked about creating comedy tracks, and from there i had tried to write some funny lines and sparked an interest for my self to start writing more. I knew before then that i wanted to pursue hip hop though, just didn't. I wrote material for a while but still didn't take it serious until 2010, when i did my first live performance. From there, it started to get real!

Electric Love: What are some current projects you're working on this summer that you want fans to know about? (Song releases, touring, music videos etc.)

Prada West: I am always working on new material, and for this summer I have a Canadian tour, not all of Canada, but just some of Ontario, and some of Alberta, and BC as well. I also have a few videos planned, two of which are from my latest album titled, Down as Ground. There is also a new album in the works, which i do not have a release date for at this time, and will disclose the title in future reference. I am also touring Europe in late September into October!

Electric Love: What do you personally or what does your music bring to the table that sets you apart from the rest out there in the rap scene?

Prada West: I feel that I differ from the majority of all other MCs for the simple reason - I represent the struggle and overcoming the hurt and pain in the hearts of people who can relate to the situation(s) that I, or someone close to me have been through. As well as staying humble, and conversing with the majority of fans that i can.

Electric Love: What is your message/advice to other musical artists out there today who are hustling to make their mark in this ever-changing and challenging industry that is the music industry?

Prada West: Only thing i can suggest for all upcoming artists is, to stay focused and stay on your grind. It normally doesn't happen over night.

Electric Love: What is your wildest/most interesting festival, tour, or performance story?

Prada West: Wildest tour story is when, i was on the 2012 SDK tour with the squad, and we had a HUGE rumble out front of the venue in Kamloops BC. It was eventful nonetheless. Haha

Electric Love: What is your secret to engaging a crowd and getting them hyped up at a large festival/show?

Prada West: Well, i f i were to disclose that, it wouldn't be a secret anymore now would it? Haha Just playing, best way to get the crowd hype, is by engaging in conversation with them and cracking jokes, as well as having crowd interacting hooks in your songs!

Electric Love: What are you looking forward to the most about the Electric Love Music Festival?

Prada West: Networking with industry people, as well as performing in front of hopefully a huge crowd! I love being up on stage and having a hype crowd in front of me!
