Artist Profile: Average Gypsy

Average Gypsy are the very definition of Electric Love: they're a talented and innovative DJ duo who connect through the love of music. Producing and performing, they're rapidly carving out a niche for themselves in the EDM scene, and we can't wait to see what these electric lovers bring to our stages August 1.

Electric Love: How long have you been making music?

Average Gypsy: We started DJ'ing together two years ago.  As for producing music, we got Ableton a year ago and started to mess around with it a bit then.  It wasn't until about 6 months ago that we really started to focus on producing, sourced out an excellent teacher to show us the ropes and made a rad little studio in our house.  We haven't released anything yet but do have a really big remix coming out soon with a quadruple platinum Canadian artist that we are over the moon about!

Electric Love: What is your specific area of expertise?

Average Gypsy: Our expertise is definitely in spinning underground house music.  We are completely obsessed with UK garage and anything that has a sexy wobble to it.....nu disco, future bass, deep house and tropical house too.  We've played a lot of shows together in the past two years and for some very versatile crowds, so we have learned how to read the room and to play to the energy in it....which means feeding them what they want, but only once in a while, the rest of the time, taking them on a journey, teaching them a lesson and acquiring them a taste.

Electric Love: What are some of the accomplishments you've achieved in your field?

Average Gypsy: We are still pretty new to the scene as a DJ duo so every day gets better for us.  We just finished doing goal setting for the next four years and we have big plans for the future. For right now, we are stoked that we are playing every weekend for the entire summer, we've been asked to remix a track by a famous musician, we've played along side some pretty huge names like Steve Aoki, Tiesto and Kastle, we're playing on two radio stations later this summer, we just got booked to open for some big headliners in the Fall that haven't been announced yet, we have a few resident spots in Vancouver and have headlined our own shows many times. This past weekend we got to DJ for Kendrick Lammar's homie, YG Hootie, at a backstage after party at Pemberton Music Festival...right after Skrillex! We make new strides every day :) We are very fortunate that we share such a deep connection, being a couple and being in love, we are always together, always practicing, always planning and always progressing. Our fans can really see that we are passionate about what we do and about each other, they can feel the love we put into the music <3

Electric Love: What are you currently working on?

Average Gypsy: We are working on fine tuning our production skills before we release our first remix, watch for it come September.  Summertime is so busy with shows, so we spend a lot of time finding, getting to know and organizing our music.  We are also working on 3 new mixes.

Electric Love: What about playing at Electric Love Music Festival are you most excited about?

Average Gypsy: Electric Love is unique because it's the only one-day, all-night festival happening and we have the absolute pleasure playing our favorite festival time slot: the very last one! We can't wait to rock the main stage with all the weekend warriors <3 <3 <3.
